Pripyat part 2

A few more pictures from the abandoned town of Pripyat

The border crossing into the exclusion zone. Chernobyl is 18km ahead.

Cafe Pripyat, built on the banks of the River Pripyat, was a popular meeting spot. Amazingly a lot of its beautiful and unique stained glass remains.

Hospital MsCh-126 Medico-Sanitary unit was the general infirmary for the residents of Pripyat. This was also the place they brought the brave young firefighters who where the first to respond to the Chernobyl disaster. They were all transferred to Moscow and all died within 14 days. The average age was 26. Their radioactive clothing is still in the basement of this hospital.

Pripyat City Hall. Before the disaster this building housed the City Officials and the Executive Committee. In the background can be seen the Polissya hotel
